I have been looking at Uta Barth’s work on and off for a while now when doing research for my photography course and I think the way she describes herself and her artwork throughout the video (above) is absolutely beautiful.
It’s true what she says though, “what you see through the viewfinder and what actually comes out when printed or developed in the darkroom, is completely different” – it literally is seeing the world with new eyes.
She has shot a lot from the warmth of her own home and has manipulated the light and the way it is portrayed through her curtain, blinds etc. It literally is like drawing. The precision involved in getting the right photo is essential and it is like drawing from thin air.
Love her work; she seems like a very insightful woman.
Check her out!
